Can I register my horse? If you have a horse that you believe to be PART Clydesdale, you can register your horse. You do not need to have proof of Clydesdale breeding, but in signing the registration form you acknowledge that you have a genuine belief your horse has some Clydesdale in its pedigree. The full requirements are available when you download the registration form I have a full Clydesdale horse, can I register? We do not accept registrations of full Clydesdale horses as a breed Association already exists for Clydesdale horses. However, if you have a full Clydesdale horse that is part of your breeding programme for Clydesdale Cross horses, you may still find membership valuable. I am a breeder of Clydesdale Cross horses, what benefits do I get with membership? As a breeder, you are entitled to place your contact details and a selection of photos on our website. Additionally, the Association often receives phone and email enquiries from potential buyers looking for horses. If you so wish, you can be placed on the list which we pass on in response to such enquiries. You are also welcome to advertise the services of any full Clydesdale stallion, as clearly this promotes the breeding of Clydesdale Cross horses. What is the difference between "Sport Horse" and "Studbook" registration? In July 2006, the CCSHA undertook a comprehensive review of our registration procedures. As a result, in September 2006 we split our horse register into the "Sport Horse" register and the "Stud Book". The Stud Book is reserved for potential breeding horses (stallions and mares) that either have well documented pedigrees (a full description of registration requirements can be found in the registration form) or in the absence of proven Clydesdale breeding, may be admitted to the Stud Book on special merit grounds (apply directly the Association Secretary/Registrar for details). Sport Horse registration is for all geldings, and for all stallions and mares that do not meet the criteria for Stud Book registration. Additionally, even if you have a stallion or mare that meets Stud Book criteria, you may still register as a "Sport Horse" if you so choose. Where can I buy a Clydesdale cross? A list of Clydesdale cross breeders are available on our Breeders page. The forum also has a horses for sale section. Is the Clydesdale Cross Sport Horse Association a recognised Breed Society? Although there is no formal measure of "recognition" we are becoming known as the appropriate Association for formal registration of Clydesdale Cross horse. Registration with the CCSHA is often a requirement for entry in Clydesdale Cross breed classes at Agricultural Shows. Additionally, the EFA recognises us a Breed Association for the purposes of registering your horse. If your horse is registered with us, it will be allowed (indeed required) to keep the same name when registering your horse with the EFA, even if the name is has previously been registered with the EFA, or if you use a prefix that falls outside usual EFA naming rules. Breeders who use initials as a prefix (eg. BPH) may find this a particular advantage. How do I present my Clydesdale Cross horse for breed classes at Shows? At present we do not advocate any particular style of presentation for Clydesdale Cross horses in Breed Classes. Our horses are a variety of types and used for many different purposes so it would be impossible to have a "one size fits all" policy for presentation. Many members often particularly ask about feathers on legs. Many members choose to retain the feathers on their horses, while others choose to clip them off. In our experience in Clydesdale Cross breed classes, both "feathered" and "feather-less" horses have won classes. As with all Showing, of course, preferences of individual judges may be different. What events can I attend with my Clydesdale Cross horse? In addition to the various events open to all variety of horses, there are now a number of events open only to Clydesdale Cross horses. An increasing number of Agricultural Shows, particularly in Victoria, are including Clydesdale Cross Breed Classes on their programmes. For details, keep in touch with your local Agricultural Society. In addition, as we become aware of these classes we advertise their details The CCSHA also runs a number of events throughout the year which are restricted to Clydesdale Cross horses (although not necessarily restricted to members only). Our major event of the year is our Annual Clydesdale Cross Sport Horse Championship Show run in March or April of each year. For the details of this and other CCSHA events keep an eye on our website. Is the Association insured? Yes, we are affiliated with the EFA and hold insurance to cover our members at our events. This means that as a member you are fully insured when you ride at any of our events. Some of our events are open to non-members and as such we ask you to pay a day membership fee (which is a requirement of our insurance and is paid to the EFA) so that you are covered to ride at our events. An additional benefit of our insurance and EFA affiliation is that whenever and wherever you ride with an EFA registered coach, as a member of our Association you are fully insured. For full details of EFA affiliation and insurance, please see the EFA website http://www.efanational.com Do the CCSHA have prizes and awards for Clydesdale Cross horses? We offer a number of awards for Clydesdale Cross horses. In addition to prizes and ribbons at our events, we offer a Best Performed Clydesdale Cross Award at each of the Top Team Trophy events run by the HRCAV. We also sponsor Clydesdale Cross Breed Classes at various Agricultural Shows. Even if you do not compete at any of these events, you may still be eligible to participate in our "Performance Award" which is designed to acknowledge the participation of Clydesdale Cross horses in a wide variety of pursuits. For full details see the Performance Award page on this website. What is the difference between Full and Junior membership? Junior membership is reserved for members under 16 years of age. Both types of membership allow participation in all our events and allow members to register horses. The major difference between the membership types is that junior members may not vote at the Annual General Meeting and are not eligible to hold positions on the Committee. Do you have "Family" membership? At present we do not offer a "family" membership. Can I advertise in the CCSHA newsletter? What does it cost? Newsletter advertising is open to members and non-members alike. Most people choose to advertise horses for sale but you can advertise anything you like. At present we charge $5 per half page advertisement, or $10 for a full page. We have a circulation of more than one hundred members so we feel this offers great value for money. Can I advertise my Clydesdale Cross horse on the website? Members may advertise horses for sale on the website. We are in the process of setting up a dedicated section for horse advertising but in the meantime you may use the forum section to advertise. If you are not a member, your advertisement will be removed from the website. What does membership cost? A full list of our prices for membership, registration and other miscellaneous fees can be found in the membership section of our website. Can I register my stud name and brand with the CCSHA? The Clydesdale Cross Sport Horse Association now accepts registration of Stud Prefixes/Suffixes. There are many advantages to registering your Stud name with us, including: * The reservation of your Stud name for your personal use. Only horses you register yourself, or that you certify are bred by you, may use your Stud title. * New owners may change the name of the horse, but cannot change the Stud prefix/suffix portion of the name. This will ensure that all horses you breed and register with us remain easily identifiable as products of your breeding programme. Please note that if you sell a horse unregistered, new owners will not be obliged to use your Stud prefix/suffix, so it is in your interests to register horses with us prior to sale. Note that in order to register your Stud prefix/suffix you will need to provide proof (such as a company registration form) that you have the legal right to use the name. Click to download the prefix registration form. Do I need to live in Victoria to be a member? You do not need to live in Victoria to be a member. We accept membership and registration from all Australian States. We are currently encouraging the development of affiliated Associations in all States, although Stud Book and Sport Horse registration will remain with the CCSHA. Keep an eye on the website for further details of affiliated organisations as development proceeds. Where can I obtain forms?
