Performance Awards

"Erica Hosking and Avoca Meridian pictured at the Werribee Pony Club Horse Trials. Avoca Meridian won the CCSHA hipoint award in 2010. "Merlin" is 12 years old, by Leanne Williams' stallion Avoca Cardinal. Erica is 15 years old and they compete EA dressage at preliminary and novice level, D grade PCAV showjumping and Grade 3 horse trials"

CCSHA Committee have decided to bring back the CCSHA Performance Award!

The CCSHA Performance Awards primary goal is to encourage and recognise Clydesdale Cross Sport Horses, and their owner/riders, in all forms of equestrian activity and competition. It is designed to encourage and reward participation in equestrian sport by the CCSHA members, who ride the Clydesdale Cross Sport Horses.

A rug with "Clydesdale Cross Sport Horse Association Performance Award" will be awarded to every CCSHA current member, and registered horse combination, that achieves the "500 POINT" criteria approved by the CCSHA committee. Because CCSHA members and their horses are performing in every form of equestrian activity, the committee believes recognition of these efforts should be acknowledged. The awards will be conferred using a points system for all events attended, with extra points for placing, and double points for CCSHA organised events. Double points would also be awarded to any combination that competes at State & National level competitions. CCSHA members must be current members in all years of points acquisition to be eligible for the award.

Award criteria, points, and registration papers are all downloadable from the performance awards section. The start date for the award is the 1st June 2011, and all results, enquiries, etc, must be directed to our Secretary on secretary@ccsha.com.

Fingers crossed, we hope to be awarding many rugs in the near future.

April Association Updates

  • The CCSHA are looking for a new logo, if your a member, you can submit a new logo for our association on the members page and click on the 'Submit a Logo' link
  • We have appointed our first 'State Delegate' in SA, and we welcome Kerry Spiers. The Association was approached by Kerry to represent the CCSHA in SA, we discussed it at our Meeting, and thought it was a great idea. We are trialing the role with Kerry, and if successful, will look to go ahead with State Delegates in other states.
  • The Registration process has been updated to include questions to find out why people are joining the Association, so that we can better tailor the Association to meet our members needs.
  • The association is still looking for a new Event Manager, if anyone is interested please contact registrar@cchsa.com
  • The Events page has been updated to show what CCSHA Events or Ag. shows that are holding Clydie-cross classes, are coming up. If anyone knows of any events that should be included, please let us know.
  • Pro-rata membership has commenced, so if you, or you know anyone, who was thinking about joining, but weren't sure, now's a great time to give us a go for 6 months at just half price.

CCSHA 2011 Show Wrap Up

2011 Show pic 2 2011 Show pic 3

Thanks to all who came and participated in our Annual Show. We again held it at Werribee this year, and were very thankful with the arena change to the Indoor, as it poured rain during all of our led classes first thing in the morning. We again had huge Led Classes with all of our 32 entries for the day competing. We also had our largest contingent of stallions on the day, with one coming to participate, and one stuck in a truck that broke down and wasn't able to make it. All of the stallions were wonderfully behaved, and everyone was happy to accommodate their presence.

Highpoint Award 2011

As always, it was wonderful to see the differences of presentation for the led classes all competing together. Everyone presented their horses beautifully, and in the turnout that suited their horse best. We had the traditional English presentations with plaiting and not a whisker out of place, or the unplaited, free flowing, with feathers proudly on parade. We had our entries in leather bridles, a western bridle and a traditional Clydesdale rope halter. And then there were the horses...... which averaged from approx 14.2hh to 17.2hh. We had lots of bays with white socks and a blaze, paints, buckskins, a couple of chestnuts, and a grey, heavier builds and the refined types. It was also a first for us with a Stallion and Mare taking out the Led Championship's. Read the rest of the show report in pdf here

Showing Standards For Hunter, Ridden and Led Classes

Hunter Classes

Horses in Working Hunter classes are assessed in two phases - first an obstacle course, second on conformation, action and ride. The type generally required may exhibit slightly less quality with more substance. The horse must exhibit an ability to jump and be fit enough to go a distance. Overfat horses should be penalised. The working hunter class is to be ridden in two separate phases. Phase one is the jumping phase where competitors are to negotiate a rustic type course comprising of approximately eight jumping efforts to be ridden at a controlled hunting pace. more...

Hunter ClassRidden Classes

Hack classes are for ridden horses. Ideally a hack must have abundant presence and quality and be well schooled. It is the horse, not the rider, that is judged in Hack classes and it is assessed on behaviour, conformation, movement and responsiveness to the rider. The Judge looks for a calm, supple and obedient horse that moves freely forward in all paces. Hacks should be more...

Led Classes

Horses in Led Clydesdale cross classes are assessed on their temperament, conformation, movement and soundness. This is not a turnout class. The horse should show the qualities and type that define the breed. The horse's body should be balanced in accordance with the size of the horse and it should possess a calm temperament and good nature. The objectives of Led CCSHA classes are to provide opportunities for members who currently own or breed Clydesdale Crosses, to compare their horse's conformationLed, temperament and movement. The aim of Led Clydesdale Cross classes is to promote good conformation, movement and temperament, as well as good horsemanship and showmanship skills. more...
